Our Style

Grand Master Phil Mc Grath and Master Frank Russo are second generation black belts under actor, Chuck Norris. Grand Master Chuck Norris developed American Tang Soo Do after attaining mastery of Korean Tang Soo Do while stationed in Korea as a U.S. serviceman. When he was discharged in 1962, he incorporated Judo and boxing fighting techniques into Tang Soo Do instruction and introduced Americans to a new form of martial arts called American Tang Soo Do. He opened karate studios across Southern California and helped popularize the karate craze of the 1970s and 1980s.

American Freestyle Karate incorporates the American Tang Soo Do style with a curriculum that combines a unique blend of different martial arts styles that place a strong emphasis on self-defense and valuable life skills. It is about respect and tradition with modern training and application.

Through high quality martial arts instruction, we empower people of all ages to achieve their fullest potential. This is done by emphasizing self-defense, health, fitness, and life skills in a friendly, safe, and positive environment.

American Freestyle Karate covers a wide range of programs for all ages. This starts with the little ones at ages 4 and 5 all the way through to teens and adults.
